What is WellFunded & Should I Sign Up?

What is WellFunded?

WellFunded is Canada's charity intelligence platform. We connect charities with the funders actively looking for them — donor advised funds (DAFs), private family foundations, and wealth advisors.

What we're not: WellFunded never gets in the middle of a transaction. We don't charge transaction fees, manage money, or act as an intermediary. We're an information tool that flows the right data between funders and charities.

How funders use WellFunded:

  • Due diligence — evaluating charities their donors want to grant to

  • Discovery — finding charities in specific cause areas and locations

  • WellConnect — launching giving opportunities to surface innovative charity projects

  • Granting workflows — managing the grant process with less paperwork

Some clients give their fund holders direct access to search and connect with charities. Others use the platform internally. It varies — and the platform supports both.

How Did WellFunded Start?

Co-founders Jeff Golby and Dan Wintschel helped create one of Canada's first and largest online donor advised funds. Jeff later worked at a law firm specializing in wills and estates, then ran a clean water charity for a decade.

The idea came from a simple frustration: filling out the same grant applications over and over, with duplicated questions and wasted effort across the system. That frustration turned into a collaboration with philanthropists across Canada to build something better.

The core idea: charities complete their profile once, and it's available to the entire ecosystem of DAFs, foundations, and advisors on the platform. No more answering the same questions dozens of times for dozens of funders.

Today we have about $2.3b in AUM using our platform. It's important to note, we don't hold any money, we don't get to direct how our users give, and we're not a transaction point. We provide the connection tool for our clients to discover, do due diligence and hopefully disburse to.

Should I Sign Up?

Yes — and it's free. It takes about 10–15 minutes. Here's what to do:

  1. Fill out your basics — leadership, mission, vision, and values

  2. Upload an annual report or audit — this lets us visualize your impact and report it back to wealth advisors advising clients in your cause area

  3. Confirm your impact areas and locations — this is how funders find you. If a donor wants to support homelessness on the Downtown Eastside, correct tagging puts your charity in front of them

Once that's done, you can optionally add projects through the "Add a Project" feature — but there's no rush. Get the basics right first.

We can't wait to see you there.
