What is a WellCheck
A WellCheck is a comprehensive due diligence report generated by WellFunded's analysis engine. It combines public data, charity-provided information, and source document analysis to give donors a clear, structured picture of your organization.
WellCheck is not a rating or a score. It's a research tool designed to provide context — helping donors understand your governance, finances, programs, and impact so they can give with confidence.
When WellChecks Are Used
A donor or advisor may request a WellCheck when:
Considering a significant gift to your organization
Comparing multiple charities within an impact area
Completing internal due diligence or approval processes
Supporting fund holder decision-making through a donor-advised fund
WellChecks are used to support clarity and confidence, not to delay or gate access to funding.
What a WellCheck Covers
A WellCheck report analyzes your organization across several dimensions:
Governance & Board — board structure, term limits, meeting frequency, conflict of interest policies, strategic planning
Financial Health & Sustainability — revenue trends, program spending ratios, reserves, funding stability, and peer benchmarking against similar charities in your impact area and revenue bracket
Impact & Program Approach — theory of change, measurement practices, constituent feedback, strategic alignment
Leadership & Operations — leadership credibility, staffing, stability, succession planning, organizational capacity
Communications & Transparency — donor communications quality, messaging clarity, impact reporting
Accreditations — third-party certifications and what they signal about your organization's credibility
What Data Is Used
WellCheck draws on multiple sources to build a complete picture:
CRA T3010 filings — multiple years of publicly available filings including financials, directors, staffing, and received gifts from other charities
Your WellCheck assessment — 17 structured questions covering governance, programs, leadership, finances, and communications
Source documents you upload — theory of change, strategic plan, annual reports, audited financial statements, and project reports
Peer benchmarks — statistical comparisons against charities of similar size and sector
CRA data reflects the most recent filings published at the time of generation. When new filings are published, your WellCheck can be refreshed.
How Donors Use Your WellCheck
Donors and advisors use WellCheck reports to:
Review key information about your organization efficiently
Compare organizations using a consistent, standardized framework
Support internal discussions, board decisions, and grant approvals
Complement — not replace — direct conversations with your team
