Understanding User Roles
WellFunded supports different types of users, each with access to specific features and actions on the platform. This article explains the main user roles, what each role can do, and how access is typically used across charities, donors, and donor-advised funds.
Understanding roles can help you navigate the platform more confidently and avoid confusion about what actions are available to you.
Overview of User Roles
User roles on WellFunded are designed to reflect how people participate in the giving process. Roles determine what you can view, create, or manage, but they do not affect ownership of relationships or decision-making authority outside the platform.
At a high level, roles fall into three groups:
Charity users
Donor users
Donor-advised fund (DAF) users
Each group interacts with WellFunded differently.
Charity Users
Charity users represent an organization listed on WellFunded.
Charity users typically can:
Create and manage a charity profile
Upload logos, documents, and supporting materials
Add or update leadership and board information
Create and manage projects
Respond to giving opportunities
Complete WellCheck assessments when requested
Charity users control the information shared on their profile and decide how to follow up with interested donors. WellFunded does not initiate or manage those relationships.
Donor Users
Donor users use WellFunded to discover, review, and support charities.
Donor users typically can:
Search for charities
View charity profiles and projects
Create and review WellChecks
Create giving opportunities
Make pledges
Organize charities using lists or goals
Donors use WellFunded to evaluate and organize their giving. Giving itself happens outside the platform, through the donorβs usual process.
Donor-Advised Fund (DAF) Users
DAF users represent donor-advised funds or foundations managing giving on behalf of donors.
DAF users typically can:
Search and review charities
Use WellChecks during grant review
Organize charities using lists
Make and manage pledges
Coordinate internal review and approval workflows
DAF users often have additional internal roles or permissions that reflect how their organization manages grant decisions.
Roles and Permissions
Roles determine what actions a user can take within the platform. Permissions may vary depending on the organization, account setup, or internal policies.
For example:
Some users may have edit access, while others have view-only access
Multiple users can be associated with the same organization or account
Access can be updated by account administrators as needed
If you are unsure what actions are available to you, it may be related to your role or permission level.
What Roles Do Not Control
User roles on WellFunded do not:
Transfer funds
Commit donations
Control off-platform relationships
Override internal decision-making processes
WellFunded provides tools for discovery, review, and coordination, but all giving decisions and transactions remain external.
